Project List

I've worked on quite a bit of software over the years, much of which, for various reasons, I can't show off to the world. Here's the stuff I can.

In case you haven't been to the "What I Do" page yet, please be aware that I am a programmer, not a visual designer - some of these applications and websites are beautiful, others are a bit ugly, but, either way, I did not design their appearance unless noted otherwise. My primary contribution has generally been to implement the functionality of the software and, where applicable, to convert the graphic artist's design into a form which can be displayed on the user's screen.

Academic Invest

Project date: 2010

Drupal-based site for Academic Invest, providing services to match students to private tuition funding and internship opportunities.

Dave is an awesome developer who had answers to most our questions. If he didn't have an answer, he found one quick. In addition to development, he served as technology adviser and used his knowledge to help us choose the best platform to build our social network on.

CyberPenguin

Project date: 2007, 2008, 2010

Web-based billing, customer management, workstation administration, and point-of-sale application for a cybercafe. While I cannot link directly to the application itself, as it runs only on a private network and access is limited to CyberPenguin employees, the client has prepared a case study (pdf) which both details the application's functionality and includes screenshots of it in action.

sherohman.org

Project date: 2009, 2010

My personal sites at sherohman.org, code.sherohman.org, and diabetes.sherohman.org. These are a trio of Drupal-based sites. These are mentioned primarily because they are relatively recent examples of my level of graphic design skill, but they did also call for minor code customizations to Drupal beyond the standard plugin selection and theming.

FishTwits

Project date: 2009

Fully-custom web application at FishTwits.com aggregating fishing-related information posted to Twitter by its users. Also includes photo uploads, sending messages via Twitter, link shortening, and general social networking capabilities.

Dave is an extremely talented coder. He has the ability to take concepts described and demonstrated in non-technical language by non-technical people and code them into a reality. His hard work, ideas and positive attitude, in our start-up company, were greatly appreciated and we hope to continue working with him into the future.

Twitter::TagGrep

Project date: 2009

Perl module to watch Twitter updates for messages containing any of several tags. Submitted to CPAN at Twitter::TagGrep for distribution under the GPL or Artistic License.

Marks4Antiques

Project date: 2007, 2008

Initial project was to add on-line administration capabilities to client's existing website, www.Marks4Antiques.com. Follow-up project in 2008 involved addition of a custom full-text search engine with stemming, soundex matching, and fuzzy-matching capabilities.

Dave has shown amazing attention to detail and exceptional communication skills. He has helped us on several complex technical issues for our company and has explained each step in remarkable detail using plain language. Dave's wide range of expertise on several software topics has also enabled us to have a much wider cooperation than originally expected, and we definitely plan to seek his advice and support in the future.
